About Chris
After 25 years of the academic life, Chris Kolb finally realized his true passion was helping people make their homes look nicer and better serve their needs.
Chris and his wife unwittingly enrolled in a home repair crash-course in 2002 when they bought a 1920s rowhouse in Baltimore. Forced to learn about things like plumbing and electricity in order to bathe, cook, and sleep in a less than 90 degree room, Chris became more skilled by making pretty much every mistake a person can make. After 20 years of fixing up three more old houses, he’s actually gotten pretty good at it.
Chris Kolb is a native Louisvillian who cares deeply about his community. After earning a doctorate in anthropology from Johns Hopkins University, Chris returned to Louisville and taught at Spalding University for fifteen years. A longtime community organizer, Chris decided to more fully engage in civic life by running for public office in 2016 and he is now in his second term on the Jefferson County Public Schools Board of Education.
In addition to home repair, public education, and social sciences, his interests include sports, philosophy, policy research, playing games with family, movies and tv, cross-stitching, baking, and reading. His ten-pound Maltese, Scout, loves to hang around when he’s doing handiwork so, if you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet Chris’s (small, hypoallergenic, non-shedding, fully-vaccinated) companion.
