Frequently Asked Questions
Please feel free to ask me a question by text or email (or phone if needed). You can read more about me here and more about what services I offer here.
I am certified by the Association of Certified Handyman Professionals. (There is no licensing for a handyperson in Louisville.) I carry general liability insurance up to one million dollars through NEXT Insurance which I work very hard to never have to use.
As a handyperson, I perform a wide variety of household tasks. My list of specializations is here. Most handyman projects take a day or two at most, though some can take a little longer. I recommend a contractor for bigger or more technically specific jobs like a kitchen remodel, major electric or plumbing work, and roof leaks.
If it’s an emergency, I’ll try to get there ASAP though I am often in the middle of a job that I can’t immediately leave. If it’s not an emergency, I’ll make every effort to accommodate your schedule while doing the same for other customers.
That would be me! I am a sole proprietor so you will be dealing only with me throughout the process.
The best warranty is hiring someone (like me!) committed to doing the job right the first time. I do offer a one-year warranty on all work I perform.
One of the things I like about being a handyman is that you never really know what a job is going to entail until you get into it. While I enjoy the creative problem solving this requires, it makes it difficult to estimate exactly how much a job will cost. This is why I charge an hourly rate ($80 per hour) with a $150 minimum labor charge per job. (The state also requires charging sales tax on labor.) I have plenty of work to keep me busy so I have an interest in minimizing your cost by completing the job as quickly as possible while also performing high-quality work. The hourly rate also applies to time I spend buying specific materials for your job, for any planning you ask me to do, and time I spend moving objects or cleaning so I can perform the work. You can minimize cost by preparing the area so it’s easily accessible, and purchasing materials yourself. For jobs that require follow-up visits such as drywall patching there is a $30 charge for each visit required after the first visit. You will not be charged this $30 fee if your jobs list requires multiple days to complete due to the overall time required.
I am happy to purchase materials for you and I will list material charges on your invoice. I charge a 10% markup on materials I buy specifically for your job and I charge my hourly rate for time spent purchasing materials. You can minimize your cost by purchasing materials yourself.
You never know what a job is going to entail until you get into it. I will do my best to estimate the total cost before I begin work though please know this is truly an estimate and it may change. I will always communicate changes to cost with you as they occur so we can discuss potential options. If you would like an estimate for an extensive amount of work I charge my regular $80 hourly rate. You are under no obligation to hire me after receiving an estimate.
Payment is due immediately upon completion of services. If your project requires purchasing costly materials, I may ask for materials payment beforehand to avoid the possibility of having to pay restocking fees or return a large amount of goods.
As a small local business, I prefer check or cash so I can avoid credit card processing fees. I will accept credit and debit cards if needed.
I only perform work on weekends and holidays in rare circumstances. I try to perform all work between 8 am and 6 pm but I may be able to work before or after that if you need.
I strongly prefer someone to be there who is at least 18 years of age though it is not absolutely necessary.
